My Will in Ashes – Poetry July 2024

I stood so small
beneath his towering inferno
his mouth smouldering
my will in ashes
he waited in silence
his eyes my predator
and I wondered what I did wrong
again and again and again
the television hammered in my fear
as my small presence changed
and I looked into the eyes of
terrorism
and he waited for my reaction
it turned to horror
and he seemed pleased
always and always
wanting to see me scared.
my towers of terror terror terror.
