About Me (Prior to 2023)

“They wrote a song and sang it
until they wrote a poem to speak it.
They wrote a story to read it
and they is writing it all to share it.”

First of all, thank you so much for taking the time to get to know me. It’s amazing how much has continued to change. I continue to find out more about myself each day. I’ve spent the last few years advocating for Non-Binary people. It’s been a few big hurdles to jump through as others adjust to my pronouns: they/them. Though, I have to say, my nail polish and eye shadow skills are blowing everyone away. I’m a stunner!

Past Me:

For almost 10 years, I was a primary teacher. I spent most of my days focusing on the needs of the students until I found them saying more and more that I needed to write the stories that I shared in class down. So I did and the universe paved the way for me from there.

After resigning from teaching, I became a member of a local writing group and a member of the board at St Marys Area Community and Development where I helped organise publications, radio shows and public readings with ArtWest and the local community. I have volunteered for Likemind, in Penrith, to speak about Mental Health and Domestic Violence in relation to my own personal experiences.

In October 2018, I self-published a book called He Was A Boy Who Smiled: Phoenix Rising about the struggle I faced as a child growing up in a home suffering from Domestic Violence. Not only has this book helped me through my own mental health journey but I have had the pleasure of speaking to many readers who have connected with my story whether they have experienced Domestic Violence themselves. I never dreamed that within a year I’d self-publish its sequel, He Was A Boy Who Smiled: Phoenix Falling. I am currently working on the final sequel to this award-winning book.

I’ve also started what I call Inkbooks, which are a collection of poetry, under the heading: We Need To Talk About This. These poems each present their own themes relating to Equal Rights, Domestic Violence, Mental Illness and more developing. I created these in hopes to start and continue a discussion on areas that have a stigma around them that don’t make them as publicly discussed as they should be. It is my hope that not only will these writings connect with those living with these aspects of their lives but with those who want a better understanding about what a person goes through.

I’ve self-published Shorts, a short stories anthology full of queer voices. This is full of collections of stories I never got to publish in high school or colleges due to the silencing of LGBT+ voices. You can find my Shorts here.

I published my first LGBT+ YA fantasy book series starting off with Silver. I have always loved the genre fantasy but have never had character’s that represented the type of characters I wanted to see growing up.

Present Me: (Updated: June 2022)

So, what am I doing now? I live in Sydney, Australia with my husband, Joel, who is my biggest supporter and has helped build a foundation for me to be able to write comfortably. I am currently a committee member for Western Sydney Rainbow Connections where I am a judge for their annual LGBT+ Writing Competition.

I’m preparing for my first ever Writing Workshops with Penrith Council being hosted by Penrith Library both for Young Adults and Adults. For more information, check out my blog.

Future Me:

Due to Covid, my Mental Health work has really been out the window as my university courses have stalled. It’s a shame, but I’m hoping to keep working on that.

I’m still enjoying my life with Joel as we continue to build a house full of love and acceptance. We enjoy having a coffee together, playing games and obsessing over whatever series we’re streaming. We’ve been working on a few writing projects together and both advocate the importance of Chosen Families, Mental Health and surviving Domestic Violence.

Thank you so much for all your support.
