10 minutes: Let’s empty out those brains!!
Set the timer when you’re ready. Once you start, don’t stop. I want you to forget spelling, grammar and formatting. That’s not important here. Choose one from the following options:
1. For 10 minutes I want you to write whatever it is you’re thinking. We’re always thinking. You might write down the word “nothing” and there might be a lot of repeating at times but that doesn’t matter. No rules. Just 10 minutes of free thinking and free writing.
2. You’ve woken up in an animal’s body. This animal could be your pet or a smaller animal you wouldn’t notice around the house if you don’t have a pet. Your original body is going about its normal routines. What are you seeing? Is there anything you’re learning about yourself? Bad habits? Good habits? How others are reacting to you that he wouldn’t have seen if not from this perspective?
3. Like the sands in an hourglass, the days of our lives are coming to an end. I’m talking about the whole world. Earth’s final chapter has been written, but our focus is going to be on what you wouldn’t have finished if it was. Write about all the things in your life that you have yet to finish. Would you care less about some not finishing? Which ones would you scramble to get done?
After the time is done, don’t read it. This is important. You can read it later, but don’t read it now.
40 minutes: Time to get our creative juices flowing.
As you are walking down the main street of the town in which you live in currently, a scientific mishap happens. Choose from the following:
1. Lightning has struck a clock tower, travelled through the electric wires and has struck you, teleporting you back in time to the 80s. How has main street changed? How have people changed? Do you fit in or do you struggle?
2. There’s a flash of light and suddenly the world around you grows because you have shrunk to the size of an ant!
3. You are suddenly hit by cosmic radiation that gives you superpowers. What would your superpower be and how would it change your life?
10 minutes: Read through what you’ve come up with. Does anything stand out to you? Anything you like you might want to expand on or use elsewhere? A highlighter would come in handy here. #StoryStones
